GORCC manages coastal reserves and caravan parks between Torquay and Lorne. We undertake a large range of projects and activities.
The coastal reserves between Torquay and Lorne deliver enormous benefits to residents, visitors and businesses in the region through the provision of open space, and provide important environmental and social benefits.
GORCC is responsible for building, managing and maintaining a large range of facilities on the coastal reserves (e.g. walking tracks, toilets, BBQs, playgrounds, car parks, seats, fences, signs, lights etc). A range of facilities along the coast are also leased to various community organisations (e.g. angling clubs, surf clubs). GORCC also licences various activities that occur along the coast (e.g. surf schools, education tours etc), and a large range of events that occur throughout the year (e.g. markets, triathlons, swimming events etc).
As well as the coastal reserves, GORCC is also responsible for the Port of Lorne, Taylor Park in central Torquay and Queens Park at Lorne.
GORCC manages the Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park and Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park. The caravan parks provide a wide range of accommodation options, and generate important revenue which GORCC uses to manage facilities in the parks and along the coastal reserves. GORCC leases two caravan parks at Anglesea and Cumberland River to private operators.
We fund our extensive coastal activities through the caravan park and reserve operations, with occasional project-based grants. All our funds are invested in the management and protection of coastal reserves between Torquay and Lorne.
GORCC's services and operations provide a range of benefits such as:
The provision of a world-class and iconic foreshore which underpins tourism in the Surf Coast region.
A valuable contribution to the sense of place enjoyed by residents.
Open space and recreational opportunities and facilities.
Access to natural and cultural values, and accommodation.
Improvements in coastal management for state and local government.
Economic benefits through employment and contracting.
